VLP Week 7 (2/27/2026).

Hello everyone, this is now week 7 of my internship with the University of Central Florida’s Veterans Legacy Program. I remember a couple of weeks ago I was talking about how frighteningly quick the passage of time could be, that was at the start of February and that saying still holds true now. At the time of writing this it is the second to last day of February and midterms and spring break are only a few short weeks away, it has been nothing less than astounding how quickly this semester and internship have flown by. I apologize for talking so long about how quickly this year has gone by and not on what I’ve done this week with the VLP but to tell the truth this has been a fairly uneventful week. This week's meeting largely had the team go over and discuss the notes and what happened at the teacher conference last Wednesday, additionally the idea was brought up that interns may go to the house of the spouse of a veteran to scan some docu...

VLP Week 6 (2/20/2026)

Hello everyone, this is now week 6 of my internship with UCF’s Veterans Legacy Program. This week didn’t see anything brand new so I’ll mostly just talk about updates for things I have discussed in previous posts. To start out, the thing that I was most excited to talk about in the previous post is me being able to receive compensation for mileage and tolls while traveling to the Museum of Military History in Kissimmee, I am happy to say that I have gotten all the paperwork sorted for that and that I have been accepted to receive reimbursement but there were a few hiccups along the way. The main one being for the form I had to list the start and end date for my travel, the way I thought to fill this out would be I would list the next time I would go to MMH as the start and the end would be the last time I go before spring break. However, after I turned the form in I learned that I needed to resubmit because I needed to include all days when I would go to the museum from now to ...

VLP week 5 (2/13/2026)

Hello everyone, this is now week 5 of my internship with UCF’s Veterans Legacy Program. A lot has happened this week so I’m going to jump right into talking about what I’ve been up to. First of all, the main thing going on for this week is that the VLP is preparing to do a conference with local teachers to discuss lesson plans regarding topics that allow the inclusion of the stories of veterans covered by the VLP. I had brought this up a couple weeks ago but now I have a greater understanding of what I need to do. I have been tasked with assisting with a brief presentation about the history of the US Marine Corps, the senior VLP staff member I had been set to help asked me to create a spreadsheet listing all the Marine veterans the VLP had covered, listing what units and battles they were involved in. Since I am the newest member of the VLP I don’t have quite as big of a role as other members, but nonetheless I am happy to help out where I can. Next, I will talk about what has ...

VLP Week 4 (2/6/2026)

Hello everyone, I hope that you are all doing well. This is now week 4 of my internship with VLP. It’s kind of hard to imagine that it’s already been almost a month since I started this internship, I still feel like I’ve only just started. However, I think it's best to move past the frightening speed of the passage of time to talk about what I’ve done this week. To start things off, on Monday myself and one of the other interns uploaded the first batch of veteran biographies to the VLM website. To start we uploaded a total of 5 biographies, I uploaded 2 of the biographies that I had worked on. There was a little confusion at first as the VLM website had an option to submit a biography but it wouldn’t allow us to submit pdfs, there was a historical document section which would accept pdfs but we were unsure if the biographies would be accepted for that category. However, we were able to quickly clear our confusion up as we talked with one ...
