VLP week 5 (2/13/2026)
Hello everyone, this is now week 5 of my internship with UCF’s Veterans Legacy Program. A lot has happened this week so I’m going to jump right into talking about what I’ve been up to. First of all, the main thing going on for this week is that the VLP is preparing to do a conference with local teachers to discuss lesson plans regarding topics that allow the inclusion of the stories of veterans covered by the VLP. I had brought this up a couple weeks ago but now I have a greater understanding of what I need to do. I have been tasked with assisting with a brief presentation about the history of the US Marine Corps, the senior VLP staff member I had been set to help asked me to create a spreadsheet listing all the Marine veterans the VLP had covered, listing what units and battles they were involved in. Since I am the newest member of the VLP I don’t have quite as big of a role as other members, but nonetheless I am happy to help out where I can.
Next, I will talk about what has been going on with my work at the Museum of Military History in Kissimmee. This week my partner who I went with last week wasn’t able to go so I went there alone. To tell the truth, I was very nervous at first but after a while I felt much more comfortable and I think it went well. Additionally, the museum and VLP were able to communicate some more so that both sides knew better what we had to do, this I think also contributed to why I feel why this time went smoother than last week. Another piece of news regarding the Museum of Military History which I was very excited to hear is I was recently told by the VLP project head that there was room in the budget to reimburse members for mileage and tools for travelling to and from the MMH, and I would be eligible to be reimbursed. It likely won’t be a large amount of money but regardless, any amount of payment is more than I expected when joining the internship so I’m very happy to take anything I can get. As such, I’ve been working on the paperwork for that today.
That’s all I have for this week, I hope you all have a good weekend and I’ll see you next week.
