VLP week 13 (4/10/2026)

Hello everyone, this is now week 13 of my internship with UCF’s Veterans Legacy Program. We are nearing the end folks, at least in terms of this blog, after this week's post there will only be 2 more. I feel like a broken record for saying this again but I am absolutely astounded with how quickly this year has gone by. Despite it being so close to the end it doesn’t feel like it for me, although that’s probably because I’ll be working with VLP over the summer, so in terms of that the only thing that will change will be me doing this blog. But without further ado, here is what has happened at VLP over this last week. As has been a trend over the past couple of weeks, much of what we have been doing at VLP has been in preparation for events over the summer. Again, I won’t talk about this much because I do not feel that it is within the scope of this blog, but one interesting thing I will bring up is one of the plans is for some VLP members to head over to San ...

VLP week 12 (4/3/2026).

Hello everyone, this is now week 12 of my internship with UCF’s Veterans Legacy Program. We are on the home strip folks, with it now being the start of April that means we have less than a month of this internship. I’ve said it numerous times in previous posts but it has been nothing short of astounding to me just how fast things the time has gone by with this semester. And with that it also means I will be very busy this last month because on top of everything with VLP I will also soon be hard at work on the final projects for the rest of my classes.  With all of this in mind I have very much been looking forward for summer when I get a chance to relax, and another thing I have to look forward too is while I haven’t talked about it because I feel it might have been out of scope for this blog, I have enjoyed my time with VLP so much that I have decided to stay and work with VLP over the summer. But enough about the future, here is what...

VLP week 11 (3/27/2026)

Hello everyone, this is now week 11 of my internship with UCF’s Veteran’s Legacy Program. I hope you all had a good spring break from last week, I did not have the most eventful spring break but nevertheless I was glad to be able to get a chance to relax. But now it appears that we are in the home stretch, with next week being the start of April. It means that there is only one last month before the end of the semester. Bearing that in mind I’m glad to have gotten a break as I know that with both classwork and the internship I expect it's going to be a busy month. Regarding my internship, this week has mainly served to lay out all that I can expect to work on for this last month so without further ado I shall tell you all what I will be working on. First of all, I will give a brief update on the projects I have been working on already. Over the break I did some metadata on items scanned at the MMH and I will soon start going there again to ...

VLP Week 9 (3/13/2026)

Hello everyone, this is now week 9 of my internship with UCF’s Veterans Legacy Program, and we are already at spring break. I feel like I’ve said this a lot but I am nothing but astonished by how fast this year has been going by, I feel like midterms were yesterday but it’s been two weeks. But with all that aside I think it’s high time that I tell you all what I have been up to this past week. To start things off, it’s been a while but at Tuesday’s meeting the team had finally heard back from VLM so we should hopefully be able to start uploading bios to the website soon, we were asked to modify the pdfs so that any personally identifiable information that isn’t from publicly available sources should be covered up. This is a new development and the team will discuss more about VLM after the break so I will update you all when I have more information The next thing I will be talking about is the thing that I mentioned in last week’s post that I was most look...

VLP Week 8 (3/6/2026)

Hello everyone, this is now week 8 of my internship with UCF’s Veterans Legacy Program. Last week I didn’t have a whole lot to talk about, but as I predicted in my last post this week I was much more busy both with working on midterms but also there has been an exciting new development with my internship. But first I’ll get the usual out of the way. On Wednesday I did metadata and scanning at the Museum of Military History in Kissimmee, our team had finished the scanning and metadata for the collection on the first veteran we were working on so now we moved on to a new set of veterans and their documents, so that will show some new and interesting sources but the work itself remains largely similar which has gotten me down to a routine, which I don’t overly mind. And furthermore I still am going to be working on creating pdfs for VLM even if we still don’t have the go ahead from the VA to upload them. But now it's time to talk about somethi...

VLP Week 7 (2/27/2026).

Hello everyone, this is now week 7 of my internship with the University of Central Florida’s Veterans Legacy Program. I remember a couple of weeks ago I was talking about how frighteningly quick the passage of time could be, that was at the start of February and that saying still holds true now. At the time of writing this it is the second to last day of February and midterms and spring break are only a few short weeks away, it has been nothing less than astounding how quickly this semester and internship have flown by. I apologize for talking so long about how quickly this year has gone by and not on what I’ve done this week with the VLP but to tell the truth this has been a fairly uneventful week. This week's meeting largely had the team go over and discuss the notes and what happened at the teacher conference last Wednesday, additionally the idea was brought up that interns may go to the house of the spouse of a veteran to scan some docu...

VLP Week 6 (2/20/2026)

Hello everyone, this is now week 6 of my internship with UCF’s Veterans Legacy Program. This week didn’t see anything brand new so I’ll mostly just talk about updates for things I have discussed in previous posts. To start out, the thing that I was most excited to talk about in the previous post is me being able to receive compensation for mileage and tolls while traveling to the Museum of Military History in Kissimmee, I am happy to say that I have gotten all the paperwork sorted for that and that I have been accepted to receive reimbursement but there were a few hiccups along the way. The main one being for the form I had to list the start and end date for my travel, the way I thought to fill this out would be I would list the next time I would go to MMH as the start and the end would be the last time I go before spring break. However, after I turned the form in I learned that I needed to resubmit because I needed to include all days when I would go to the museum from now to ...
