VLP Week 4 (2/6/2026)

         Hello everyone, I hope that you are all doing well. This is now week 4 of my internship with VLP. It’s kind of hard to imagine that it’s already been almost a month since I started this internship, I still feel like I’ve only just started. However, I think it's best to move past the frightening speed of the passage of time to talk about what I’ve done this week.


To start things off, on Monday myself and one of the other interns uploaded the first batch of veteran biographies to the VLM website. To start we uploaded a total of 5 biographies, I uploaded 2 of the biographies that I had worked on. There was a little confusion at first as the VLM website had an option to submit a biography but it wouldn’t allow us to submit pdfs, there was a historical document section which would accept pdfs but we were unsure if the biographies would be accepted for that category. However, we were able to quickly clear our confusion up as we talked with one of the staff who confirmed for us that we were to submit our pdfs to the historical document section, so in the end we uploaded the bios and then we had to wait for the VLM to accept them. Thankfully it didn’t take very long for them to be looked through as the next on Tuesday during our meeting we checked the VLM website and saw that 4 of the bios had already been accepted and were up on the website. However, one of the bios had been rejected because it contained personally identifiable information, at the moment we believe it was because the bio that was rejected had a picture of a muster roll which contained service numbers but we are checking to make sure why exactly it was rejected. In the meantime, I will continue to create more pdfs for the bios.


The last thing I have to say this week is that I have finally started doing work at the Museum of Military History in Kissimmee. As mentioned in a previous post I explained that our job involved scanning and doing metadata on documents held by the museum belonging to veterans which the VLP were working on. My schedule for the MMH is going there on Wednesdays from 1:00-5:00, on Tuesday during the meeting we went over how to do metadata as well as how to use the scanner. Overall, I think the first day went well, there were a few hiccups as this was the first time doing metadata for myself and the person I was working with, however I am confident that I will become more proficient as time goes on.

VLP week 13 (4/10/2026)

       Hello everyone, this is now week 13 of my internship with UCF’s Veterans Legacy Program. We are nearing the end folks, at least in terms of this blog, after this week's post there will only be 2 more. I feel like a broken record for saying this again but I am absolutely astounded with how quickly this year has gone by. Despite it being so close to the end it doesn’t feel like it for me, although that’s probably because I’ll be working with VLP over the summer, so in terms of that the only thing that will change will be me doing this blog. VLP Week 2 (1/23/26).

     Hello everyone, this is now week 2 for my internship with UCF’s veteran’s legacy program. Even though I am still very early in my time at the VLP I feel this week has made me much more familiar with what I will be doing and what the work will be like for this internship. On Tuesday I attended my first weekly meeting where I got the chance to meet as well as introduce myself to the rest of the VLP team, it’s a relatively small team which I like and overall the mood for the meeting was fairly casual which helped me feel a little more comfortable during the meeting.
