VLP Week 3 (1/30/26)
Hello everyone, this is now week 3 of my internship with the VLP and I am happy to say that things are speeding up here. This week I have been keeping up with preparing biographies from the VLP website to transfer them to VLM and we have plans to upload the first batch of 5 biographies to the VLM on Monday. And I have to say, even though in my last post I mentioned that this isn’t the most exciting project I have found that after working on it I have found the rhythm of formatting the Bio pdfs to be pretty rewarding. I have found that I enjoy having a routine and I feel this project offers a good routine for me to follow. I expect to continue working on this project for at least a couple more weeks so I’ll probably talk more about it in future posts.
In other news, I am very happy to say that at this week's meeting it was confirmed that I will start working at the Museum of Military History in Kissimmee this upcoming Wednesday from 3:00pm and 8:00 pm. I will help with scanning documents donated to the museum by veterans in order to digitize them. As I have stated in my previous posts this has been the part of the internship that I have been looking forward to the most as I plan on maybe having a career in museum work and getting the chance to get some experience in this internship. Furthermore, I also thoroughly enjoyed the MMH when I visited it during the break so I’m very happy to get a chance to do some work there. I am very much looking forward to talking about how my work there goes for the next post.
The last thing I have for this week is that during this week’s meeting I was also given a new project for me to work on. The project in question is the VLP is holding a virtual meeting with teachers to discuss lesson plans relating to veterans, and the interns have been tasked with assisting parts of the presentation. The part of the presentation that I have been given involves a lesson plan on the history of the US Marine Corps, the meeting is on February 18 so it’s still a fair ways away and I am waiting to here more on what I need to do to help but nevertheless I am excited to work on something new.
That’s all I have for this week, I hope all of you have a good weekend and I’ll see you Friday.
